A special gift!

Getting personal gifts for him (the hubby) is always next to impossible. So when he came up to me and asked for a phone, how could I refuse. Admittedly it cost a small fortune but then I never seem to buy him anthing substantial. It always seems to be chocolates, ties and socks.

This is the phone I am getting him – click here, which apparently is an all singing all dancing phone costing more than my laptop!

Anyway… he ordered it early this morning and later on received an email saying he should buy the phone he just bought as it was the best in the galaxy. This made his day. Made mine too as he now “owes me one”!

TV’s

We saw some TV’s in the shops today, and we are still arguing over what to get. You see I would like one of these new 3d Tv’s but hubby says they are too new! He complains about HD TV’s because not everything is HD and when something is transmitted and is not HD, the visual is not so sharp. And then there is plasma versus LCD tvs and we still cannot come to any conclusion.

I think I am going to have to wait for our TV to die… and then we probably will have to wait for the kids tv to die and hopefully we then might come up with some agreement!

USB Drives

I needed to get myself a usb drive to store some work on and my hubby gave me a purple one. I was made up with it and said that it was made for me because it was purple and made it feel feminine rather than just a gadget. He laughed at me and told me that usb drives can come in all forms and I should know better considering he has one in his watch. He told me that some of the weirdest include a Sushi USB drive, a Barbie and even a thumb! I think I will stick to the purple one (though the Barbie is tempting).

Modem

My hubby asked if he could buy a modem. He wanted a newer version to replace the one we have. Ideally a bit faster and wireless. I, stupidly, expected it to cost £10 – £20. So when it arrived, it was an all singing, all dancing version. So curiously I asked how much it was. Let’s say I was very wrong with my expectations as it was £160. Gulp. Serves me right. On the plus side, it has made my hubby really pleased because it can do a whole bunch of things such as handling 2 phone lines, Conference calls, wider wireless range and on and on the list goes apparently. But because it is his baby…. read his review!

My Discovery

Ok.. I have made a great discovery… Our Wii is best fat burner and fitness thing ever. It is fun. It is competitive. It is challenging. It is encouraging. You can check your calories burnt. You can keep your time exercised. It actually helps you improve. It encourages you to return and to improve. And it even stops you over doing stuff. My only complaint, is that you can waste time changing from one item to another as this substantially adds to the time you spend. In other words to do 30 minutes of exercise… you need at least 45 minutes free though maybe even more. Still… it is worth it.

The power of advertising

My son is so cute… he said we needed a ps3 keyboard for our Wii! It is amazing the power of advertising especially on a 4 / 5 year old. When I tried to explain it is only for PS3 and we don’t have one… his logical answer was to buy one! Considering we have a PS2 that is practically untouched… I don’t think so!  At least on the positive side, the Wii is a hit and well loved.

Printers

My hubby keeps trying to talk me into getting a wireless printer… and I am often so tempted because the reality is that I most often work downstairs and the printer is 2 floors up. Particularly annoying when you need to climb 2 floors just to change paper eg photo / card / coloured etc.

The question would be which printer to go for. I have had all types including HP, Lexmark, Epson and even brother printers. They each have different pros and cons. My brief points…

  • HP – Great Quality but very expensive ink though you can use compatibles quite well.
  • Brother – Great Quality. Cheap Ink. My Recommendation.
  • Lexmark – Acceptable quality. Ink on the expensive side. But cheaper to buy than ink (and you get a free set of ink generally).
  • Epson – I paid loads for this and quality is far worse than expected. Ink is not cheap either and you cannot work with compatibles.

There are others… like KODAK and Canon…. not sure what to do though?

Refurbished

A friend recently purchased a couple of laptops. I was left amazed at the fact that she actually paid as much for a refurbished laptop as she would have for a new one. The laptops were for the kids admittedly but still I do not understand the logic. I do believe that one of them actually developed a fault within days. My suggestion was to complain but I am not sure how covered she is. If it is new, your consumer protection rights immediately kick in and you generally have a year warranty.

Playroom

I need to get myself some wireless cctv cameras. I mostly need them for the playroom but being wireless means I can move them around the house as necessary (like to keep an eye out on a kid in punishment). What I really would love is a discreet wireless cam like a pen. It would be like being a fly on the wall. I would so love to see how my son’s day at school goes, because according to him he does lots of things but cannot remember any of them!

Phones!

So my phone has been playing up and I cannot decide which phone I want. So my dearest hubby used it as an excuse to upgrade his! Like he really needs one, he only just got his for what… Christmas? The only issue is that his phones always cost loads, which I guess in return means that we are going to put our plasma mounts for our new TV to one side and wait a little longer before buying it! C’est la vie!
