Holiday Over

We are back from Paris. Strangely enough the romance seemed to have reduced so much. Admittedly, I did go pregnant and with a toddler… but it was our wedding anniversary. Though it could be the fact that I had a strange lack of shopping in a major shopping capital!! I was a bit too exhausted to shop and shopping with a toddler and husband in tow, really doesn’t work.

On the plus side… the whole family seemed to enjoy the second part of the holiday in Disney. I have to admit that due to being so tired, I limited carrying our camcorders and cameras to one day at Disney. I did allow my hubby to use his compact camera… and I did keep stealing it to take photos… but it is nothing like my dslr! Perhaps I out to do a post of his compact versus my dslr. :)

Flash Memory

I am not sure why I keep getting asked what flash memory is. I mean I can tell you where you can buy some from but explain it? I am not sure I can. You see I am a shopaholic not a techie person. I will try to give an explanation (which means in future I can just refer people here) but if you think you might want a more detailed explaination, then you might want to Ask Owen.

So flash memory is a way of storing information in technological gadgets. This is most often in items like Cameras but can also be found in toys (my son has toys with memory cards), pianos (my hubby’s electric piano has a slot) and even in phones (so you can do more).

There are different types of memory and essentially the difference is the size of the card. They also come with different memory sizes. The size you need is dependant on what you want it for. Here is a list of types of cards but there may be more types:-

  • Compact Flash
  • XD
  • Smart media
  • Micro Sd
  • Mini Sd
  • SD Cards

Now, different places have different prices and they can vary greatly. You have to bear in mind postage. I have seen them for sale at a penny but then the cost of postage was riddiculous. So this is one area you do need to compare prices. I tend to pick mine at 7 Day Shop simply because I always order photographic stuff and so I am not paying postage specifically for the memory. I am sure there are better prices than 7 day shop but as I said, if you are picking up other photographic stuff, then they become reasonably cheap.

Beyond that, there is very little I can tell you. However, if you are in photography, I personally prefer say 2 x 1GB card than 1 x 2GB card because it means I always have one empty to take more shots. But that is my 2 cents. Hope this answered some questions about Memory Cards.

Digital Framez

Digital Framez specialise in Digital Frames and Baby monitor items.

You can chose your digital frames in 4 different sizes, 7 inches, 8 inches, 9 inches and 10 inches. The frames are really easy to use. They work on a simple 3 step system:-

  1. Take your photos
  2. Transfer your memory card into your Digital Photo Frame
  3. Use your remote control to chose your favourite slide show

Easy isn’t it? And yes the remote control is included in the price of the Digital Photo Frames.

The frames are compatible with most formats such as Jpeg, MP3, MP4, WMA, WAV, DivX, AVI & Mpegs. They even take movie clips which I think is really funky and cool. Imagine having your most precious moments on view all the time.

Just a point to note, due to the technology the frames do come with a 9V adaptor. Again this is included in the price of the frame. I mention it in case you don’t realise it. I didn’t realise at first, thinking in the traditional manner of stand alone frame.

As for the baby monitors, these are all video monitors so you can keep an eye on your little one as well as ear. Could not live without mine. I do love their little puppy camera. It is incospicuous in a baby’s bedroom, yet allowing you to keep watching your little baby. The monitors are portable and come in pink or blue. Perfect.

PhotoBox

I am not sure if you are anything like me. I guess you probably are as you are actually reading this and still here! Well, aside from all my shopping, I am also rather snap happy! And as you can imagine the side effect of being snap happy is needing a place to be able to print my photos.

I discovered PhotoBox when my sister-in-law decided to surprise me and send me a photo in a magnetic frame. It turned out to be my first family photograph consisting of my dear hubby, my new baby and myself! At least from my photo albums, you will find that the 3 of us in a photo is not common at all, as one of us needs to take the photo!

Anyway, my first point being…. PhotoBox make great and original presents. So what do they do aside from print photographs, as they obviously do, from just 5p per print when ordering 500! (All the other prices I quote are individual prices ie max price but the more you buy, they cheaper they are – Yippee!)

  • Passport Photos at 99p
  • MiniPrints at 49p
  • 16 Ministickers for £1.50
  • Contact Sheets £2.50
  • Photo Enlargements (prices depend on size)
  • Poster Prints from £3.50 to £18.99 max
  • Photo Books £19.99 (20 pages – Hard Back)
  • Style Books £17.99 (30 pages – Soft Cover)
  • Canvas Prints from £54.14 – £129.99
  • Silver Plated Frames with Free Print from £11.20 to £18.50
  • Other Frames – Prices vary
  • Magnetic Frames – £3.99
  • Greeting Cards / Postcards – £7.99
  • Calendars from £1.49 – £14.99
  • Photogifts – HUGE Range!

The photo gifts include a photo cushion, tote bag, mini shopper, wash bag, make-up bag, keyrings, etched glass, jigsaws, mugs, mouse mats, t-shirts, wallet cards, walbums (a photo album for your wall!), placemats, coasters and even a movie DVD made from your photos!

They have 2 deliveries. Standard and Express / Courier. The best bit of all is that they ship all over the world. Great for gifts to estranged relatives all over the world without effort and not expensive!

EBay

Click Here to shop at eBay.co.uk
EBay is an online auction website. It is probably the most well known auction site of them all. You can choose to buy stuff from your neighbour next door or direct from a wholesaler in Hong kong, you can grab a bargain from the US or something from as remote a place as Timbuktu!

What I love best is that you can really grab a bargain or two or erm…. plenty more. You can get new stuff at cost price or less sometimes! Obviously you can also buy unwanted second hand stuff for next to nothing also. And you can sell all your unwanted stuff to pay for it too! And all your unwanted stuff. Honestly everything sells. Ipods, Dancewear, PC’s, Accessories, Games, Books, Baby Stuff, Mobiles, TV’s, Fireplaces, Toys, Beds & Sheets, Sofas, Clothes, Costumes, Nursery Products, Coupons, Photography Stuff, Gadgets, Travel items, Gifts and all sorts of stuff. You name it, you can Buy It or Sell It on EBay.

EBay – Buy It, Sell It, Love It! Confusing logo but its true enough!

Bet you heard about eBay before today. Bet you heard some bad things and good. As always … you get good sides and bad. For your protection eBay has worked on safety systems. The first is FEEDBACK. Everyone who signs up has feedback. You start off with a Nil Feedback rating and as you buy and sell, you build up feedback. Feedback is very important. This is especially important for you to look into the Seller’s Feedback when buying anything of substantial value. As a base rule most people have well over 90% positive feedback. Less than that should set warning bells ringing. Read their feedback before bidding. Remember that by bidding you re committing to buy if you win the auction. I recommend you build your first few feedback by purchasing a few small items as people are obviously hesitant to buy from sellers with less than 10 feedback ratings.

The other is Paypal. People who work with Paypal tend to be safer sellers and more frequent too. They also have a feedback system, but read our Paypal opinion for more information.

Some recommendations when buying:-

  • Read the auction well. Make sure you understand what is being sold. Ask questions if you are unsure. Most people will respond very quickly. A quick response tends to be a good sign.
  • Read Peoples Feedback before bidding. See how happy other people were with their purchases.
  • Take P&P into consideration as the costs can build up.
  • Avoid paying money directly into bank accounts. You have NO safety net. You lose all right to your money and eBay can do nothing more than close down their account. You will not see your money again. Pay by cheque, credit card, postal order or Paypal. You will be protected.
  • Decide on a price and place that bid. It will only increase as high as the other person who also wants it is ready to go or your maximum. Do not get caught up in a last minute bidding war as you may ed up paying more than you bargained for!

If you are selling: -

  • Respond fast to questions.
  • Once the item closes and you have received payment, send out items as soon as possible.
  • Have reasonable P&P rates.
  • List a picture and list in the gallery. This increases sales and prices.
  • Be honest in your write up and be very detailed.
  • Start your auction low and if necessary put a reserve price. Low starting prices attract more people and sell for better prices!

Good Luck and Happy Selling, Bidding and Buying!

Jessops

Jessops is probably the most competitively priced high street photography suppliers in the UK. I have even compared them to some professional photography suppliers and they beat them hands down with their prices. But not only that, if you find the price lower anywhere in the UK they even have a price promise to beat the current price. They do need a UK phone number and a quote. But hey, if you can really beat their prices, why not! However, a word of warning before you go wasting your time looking for better deals, you will have to waste an awful lot of time to find better prices (and if you do, please let us know many thanks!).

Jessops can supply you with anything to do with film. Cameras ( digital & film, compact & SLR ), Camcorders, Tapes, Cassettes, Film, Lenses, Printers, Satellite Navigation, Binoculars, Batteries, Tripods, Filters, Flashes, Memory Cards, Scanners and every type of accessory. They also do digital photo printing online (and film printing in store too). The best bit about it, is that you can collect your prints Free of Charge when you choose to collect in store. Plus they give you a few Free photos when you sign up too!

Delivery is pretty fast too. You can get next day delivery if you order before 5pm. Delivery is also Free if you spend £100. This amount is sadly pretty easy to reach. But then who said photography was cheap!

And if you look right down at the bottom of their site, there is a student section. If you click on it and go to it, you can find some great photograph taking tips.

Easy website to use, and great prices too. At the very least, why don’t you claim your free photo prints?

7 Day Shop

7 Day Shop is oddly nothing to do with it’s own name. It is however a great website, especially if you, like me are snap happy. I love taking photographs, and this site lets me do it cheaply. You can get anything from dark room supplies / chemicals to the newly advanced digital technology.

You can get anything to do with the following categories:-

  • PHOTOGRAPHY
  • INKJET STUFF
  • BATTERIES & POWER
  • CD DVD & MORE
  • COMPUTING
  • FLASH MEMORY
  • AUDIO / VISUAL
  • OUTDOORS
  • SAT NAV (GPS)

The nicest bit of it all is that  “all items in our catalogue with an individual value of under £18 are exempt from any Sales Tax (VAT)”. I believe this is because they are based in Guernsey and different legislation applies. Whatever the reason… what it means to you and me is cheaper prices.

Now for the bits that you probably interest you:-

  • P&P starts at £3.95 for any size order.
  • Dispatch is between 3 – 5 days. They are sent by royal mail 1st Class post.
  • They do next day delivery for £6.95.
  • You can even go collect but there is a £1.95 handling charge.

What else can I say? Well, there is something for everyone. At least they think so… and I agree.
