Skin

I wonder if anyone can confirm my theory…

Black heads are meant to be a result of dirt build up but I find that my skin changes depending on my hormonal changes. And with my hormones all over the place, I cannot give up my blackhead remover. However I to find that no matter how I treat my face / skin, it does not always obey the rules it is meant to! Figure that out!

Kids First

I have a great belief in enhancing everything you can to give children the best start in life. Fish Oil is renowned for being a brain booster. So, obviously I have been giving them my kids since they were old enough. I remember my mum giving me Cod Liver Oil as a spoonful and it was disgusting, no matter how it was disguised. But with modern technology, fish oil tablets have come a long long way.

Anyway, recently I had the opportunity to test 3 different brands. I had Boots Smart Omega 3 Chewable Capsules for kids, HalibOrange Kids Omega – 3 and Brain Boosters . As you can see from my picture they are quite different and even taste different. Besides my testing the oils, I also asked my 5 year old his opinion.

HalibOrange (the designer brand) just did not make the cut. He did not enjoy them at all and nor did I?

Now the other two was interesting. My son liked the outside of Brain Boosters better than the Smart Omega but prefered the inside of the Smart Omega. However, the day after the the experiment… I gave my son the Brain Boosters again… and he replied, ” Oh Good, My Favourite Ones”, which I guess means the Brain Boosters are definately prefered.

So my over all conclusion is Brain Boosters wins hands down but if it could be improved, perhaps a nicer inside could be conjured up! The best bit is I can order direct from them and have them delivered too!

Just for your info, their nutritional info is …

  • Brain Boosters -  Fish Oil 303mg
  • HalibOrange – Fish Oil 200mg + Vitamins A, D, E, C
  • Smart Omega - Fish Oil 204mg + Vitamin A, D, E, C

Brain Booster, Smart Omega & HalibOrange

Traditionally

In my family, Oil of Olay / Oil of Ulay was what the ladies always use as a face cream. And I am not just talking my mother but also my grandmothers. I suppose then it was the best wrinkle cream but today there are so many advancements that what they did is not necessarily what is best today. Unfortunately, I am probably not the best person to judge creams… though perhaps it would be worth a go!

Accutane

Accutane is a prescription treatment made with vitamin A to stop oil prodution, to stop or reduce acne. It was approved by the FDA in 1982. It also has side affects and has not worked for everyone who tried it. I think the worst side effect is birth deffects if you get pregnant while using Accutane. Other side effects include skin dryness, peeling, redness, irritation, crusting, miscarriages, depression, suicide, photosensitivity, trouble concentrating, thinning hair, decreased night vision, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, headaches, bone and joint pain, severe chest or abdominal pain, and difficulty or pain swallowing.

Worth it…  From my accutane review I doubt it!

Cleanliness

With all the hype about hygiene and cleanliness and anti bacterial stuff, it makes me start to wonder about our regular levels of hygiene. I started thinking about automatic taps, automatic foam dispensers, hand dryers and antibacterial. Then I realised that perhaps I was becoming a tad hysterical. I think I just might stick to the regular stuff of tap, liquid soap, fancy hand towel and some moisturiser. And if I need to to sooth my fears… my liquid soap can be anti bacterial (which frankly is great for the kids and their activities)!

Diabetes

My mum is diabetic and has to take insulin injections. Anyway she has asked me to keep an epi pen (or something like that) in my fridge just in case of emergency. So when I heard of epiduo, I thought it might be some new drug that might be better for her except that it turned out to be an acne treatment. Shame particularly because her blood sugar could do with being stabilised as it really fluctuates.

My Discovery

Ok.. I have made a great discovery… Our Wii is best fat burner and fitness thing ever. It is fun. It is competitive. It is challenging. It is encouraging. You can check your calories burnt. You can keep your time exercised. It actually helps you improve. It encourages you to return and to improve. And it even stops you over doing stuff. My only complaint, is that you can waste time changing from one item to another as this substantially adds to the time you spend. In other words to do 30 minutes of exercise… you need at least 45 minutes free though maybe even more. Still… it is worth it.

New Specs

I really must get round to buying myself some specs. Mine are literally falling apart. I keep having to tighten the screws and it has chips in the lenses and scratches. I am definately going for cheap eyeglasses because these were around £400 and well as I said they are falling apart and unimpressive. At least if a cheap pair start to fall apart, you can just buy another pair.

Now where is my prescription again!

Party Season

I love the party season. Obviously it means parties and er drink. The thing is you dress up and wear make-up and then you party. Which, at least in my case, result in being too tipsy, tired and too carefree to bother to remove my make up. And whereas as a teenager, it enhanced my looks, now not only do I look old and tired, it breaks my face out in acne. I do find that a good acne face wash helps dramatically against the acne… but I do miss the looking good in yesterday’s make up! :(
