Gadget Shop

The gadget shop has gone under again! It ceased trading at 5pm today. So between you and me, I place my vote on The Joke Shop any day for all your toys and gadgets! (Even if someone tried to resuscitate it).

Uniforms

Not sure how organised you are but I am not. I really must get round and order my uniforms for my son before school actually starts and take advantage of their free delivery too. Must go and shop.

Birthday Picnic

I have decided to throw the twins an early birthday party here in IOM as we will actually be in Malta for their birthday. And I am planning a picnic. I thought to make life easier all round, I will have a food bag for every kid. So I wanted to get sandwich boxes for each kid like you would when buying a take away sandwich. Except because they are aimed for the catering industry, they come in huge quantities. Now it is far from being industrial equipment, they are just one step away from sandwich bags and could make life easier for mums preparing their kids sandwiches for school without having to wonder why their lunch box did not come home from school again and without the expense… but even I won’t be buying a minimum of 1000 boxes. They would last my life time and flood my house with more junk! I guess sandwich bags it is then.

Dealing with a dealer!

A friend of mine bought a car recently and I was so impressed by her purchase, it was worth a note here. Generally I don’t recommend dealers for buying a second hand car as the prices tend to be well hiked up. I believe they make an average of £1k every time they buy or sell a car.

Anyway, they needed a car for a learner driver so they wanted a second hand car and found one at a dealer. She actually managed to get them to give her a full diagnostic with all the problems the car has. There was about £800 worth of problems. As a result, she managed to knock more than a grand off the price and had loads of added extras added to the car like new wipers etc. I don’t think she quite managed a 5th wheel warranty but considering that cars from dealers in the Isle of Man come with a legal year warranty, I think she did rather well.

Well done A!

Zzz

I think I need to increase my iron and vitamins intake. I am feeling so run down, stressed and exhausted. Everything takes so mych effort, it is next to unbelievable. I know I have twin babies and a four year old but I think I am far more tired than that. I guess that statement should highlight just how exhausted I am. In fact I even booked a GP appointment. Even shopping feels like too much, hence the gp apppointment.

Caravaning

I would love to go on a caravaning holiday especially as that is the closest I would go to camping. I would drive through Europe and I would spend a few weeks travelling. However the complexities of caravaning make it too stressful to really contemplate. Probably having motorhome insurance is the least of your worries. You have to plan the route, take fuel and its ever increasing costs into consideration, plan where to stop, where you are allowed to park, where you can fill water, empty your toilets, recharge your batteries etc etc. So perhaps not.

Ball Pit

I bought a ball pit for my kids which they love but I keep having to completely pack it away because of the neighbour hood cats who try to mark everything and I mean everything. So I thought about getting a ball pit cover but they are not easy to come by and when you do find them, they are expensive. It is not like I am after some hot tub covers just a ball pit cover. Maybe I will fashion some out of black garbage bags and duct tape. LOL!

Ryan Air

Sometimes dealing with Ryan Air is like reading about Lipovox review, and it makes yoru stomach churn. I do use them because they are a bit like catching a bus, convenient and cheap but a pain in the ass. In the past you paid extra because you used a credit card but it was free when you used an electron. But now they renamed the charge and called it an administration charge. And that gets my goat and I don’t think it is legal. I was under the impression they were legally obligated to state the full price of a flight up front ie they can only add on optional charges after saying a flight can be bought for X. In other words, they can charge you extra for taking a bag as you can travel bag free but they cannot add this charge because it is an obligatory charge as all cards have the charge and there is no alternative way to pay!

A step too far!

I think society has just gone a step too far. In the past, when a baby was born, the dad gave out montecristo cigars to everyone he came across. It was a way of celebration and letting everyone know of the latest addition. Now, its obsolete. What do we do? Er I think we sent out emails and mms with a picture of our babies. Admittedly everyone all over the world saw our kids within minutes of their being born but the cigars we bought… they went stale!

Extraordinary Measures

Just watched a great film of a professor who quit his job at a medical assisting school to help a  father who has 2 kids who suffer from Pompe Disease. It is based on a true story and it is heart wrenching. My first thought was poor guy 2 kids in a wheelchair. 1 is bad but 2 is horrific. Anyway, to make this a shopaholic post, if you want a good DVD to buy, this is my current recommendation. Oh, the film is called Extraordinary Measures with Brendan Fraser & Harrison Ford.
