Freecycle

If like me, you are forever buying stuff, then probably like me, your house is full to bursting. So what can you do? Well you can throw out what you don’t use, sell it using places like eBay or recycle it.

Personally I hate the first option, because if I bought it (unless I really used it to death), then someone else might like it or have a use for it. The second option requires time and perhaps maintence and a whole load of writing descriptions to every knitty gritty detail and I don’t have the time for it (though you do earn some extra cash to buy new stuff) and last is my favourite, you recycle it. Which is what brings me to freecycle.

Freecycle works like this… you have things you no longer like, want or even work and you list them. It appeals to someone and viola they come collect and wow your extra space.

Other benefits include :-

  • Being able to try things before you decide to buy so you know what options you want,
  • If you need something as a stop gap (I once borrowed* a bed for a couple of weeks while I had many many guests)
  • Getting rid of all your extra never used stuff
  • Getting spare parts – which is why even broken stuff is listed as 2 broken items could lead to 1 good as new!
  • Most of all – Being GREEN and environment friendly.

Anyway, if you like the idea, just sign up and really start recycling. Just chose the area you live in or are prepared to drive to!

*Technically you are not allowed to borrow or lend, but you can work around the rules as I did with the bed. Obviously don’t lend something you don’t want damaged or will be very upset if it does not come back, but otherwise why not?

New Laptop

I need a new laptop as I keep having wireless issues. Mind you I am not sure it is my pc, but I cannot refuse the option to buy a new laptop! I have been looking around at some like the Asus and netbooks. I am in 2 minds about the net books. They are small and compact but they are technoligcally a step backwards from my current laptop. On the other hand they are more petite, pretty and very feminine.

What will I get, who knows? But watch this space….

Argh

I feel like a teenager getting spots. Apparently adult acne causes include stress, hormones, birth control pills, or even bad cosmetics. I guess I am never going to have clear skin until I am old, and then who cares it will be wrinkled anyway. To top it off apparently 95% of all acne treatment doesn’t work.

Never mind, pass the chocolate, at least I will feel better.

Asda

Recently I placed an order with Asda (not groceries as they do not deliver to IOM yet?). I must say Asda is amazing value. However, I feel they are still having a stab in the dark with online ordering.

I placed a £500+ order and they cancelled one of my items without even bothering to inform me. I went to email them for information but their site said as they are new to it, I need to call their helpline number. Something I haven’t yet managed as finding a quiet moment during working hours… ie kids are up hours… not easy AT ALL!!!!!

I will update you once I actually speak to them.

Local Pharmacies

I do like huge pharmacies like Boots and Superdrug but I like local pharmacies too. They are so much more personal and you can get anything from adult cystic acne treatment to nappies and advice. I mention advice because I feel it is so important. Like recently my son had something on his foot and I wanted to ensure that I was treating it for the right thing eg was it a wart or a splinter? So I took a photo of it and just asked. It was so nice to be helped. I was given full advice and a few extra suggestions too. I definately recommend a local pharmacy for intimate personal issues.

Spring Cleaning

I have been spring cleaning. It is amazing how many cobwebs there are! Behind the fridge, under the kitchen counters and even under the beds. Scary as I hate spiders. At least with spring cleaning, you know you have cleaned it all out. This is what I like about spring cleaning:-

  1. The house gets clean and smells great
  2. It is among my top rated fat burners and great exercise
  3. I get to buy new stuff for the house like a new microwave* and candles

*I will review my microwave shortly.

Eczema

My friends daughter started suffer from eczema the moment she stopped breastfeeding her. Obviously her mum’s antibiodies must have been working till that point. Her mum must have tried every eczema treatment under the sun. Not even prescribed medicines seemed to do anything. In fact they made her skin look worse and the moment she reduced the dosage, it would flare up again. However, someone passed on a tip to wash in Camomile Tea. And as a last resort, she tried it. And it started having an immediate effect. She would throw in 3 or 4 bags into her bath and let her wash in it. She now has a camomile bath once a week just to keep it at bay. You would not believe that this kid ever suffered from Eczema. So I guess home remedies sometimes work. And camomile strikes again!

Health

We have a health savings account, which I think is a great idea as you put money aside in case of an emergency. Technically we are covered by the NHS but this is a nice safety net. There are two issues with it. One is that as a shopaholic it is so tempting to spend. But on the other hand, I like having my safety net, so I think I won’t spend it. The other is that in an emergency, it might still not be enough cash whereas supposedly insurance would cover it.

Wardrobe Clearout

I was pretending to clear out my wardrobe. I must say pretending because I like the clothes I bought. If I didn’t, I would not have bought them in the first place. But considering that I was a size 22-24 and I am now a 16, it makes them rather large. I want to buy more stuff but a size 16 is not my target size. So I need to get motivated to lose that little bit more but I cannot. Perhaps if I went on a 7 day fat burner extreme and I lost a little weight, then I just might get my motivation. Maybe next week!!
