M&S

I recently went instore to M&S to buy some food. They have this great offer where you dine in for a £10 for two. Unfortunately they were out of side dishes (and a lot of other stuff too), however they offered to give a £5 discount voucher with the purchase of the offer in lieu of the side dish. This made it sound like a great offer. I picked

  • a lasagna (which was delicious and I am fussy about my pasta)
  • a bottle of wine (a sparkling wine which was fruity)
  • a panna cotta (not for dieters – mind you nor was the lasagna)

I went and paid… and was not given the voucher. So I requested it. I was told, we deducted £5 off the total instead. Needless to say, it was no longer an exceptional offer. I went to complain to the manager who did not really want to do much. However as I was not the only one complaining, we were given £2.50 back. Still not quite the fiver but at least it resembled the cost of the average side dish.

The interesting part was between paying and before complaining the offer was removed!! I was unimpressed to say the least!

Money cannot buy everything!

In life there are some things money cannot buy. I was reading about a new born baby girl being abandoned by her mum in a school playing field. For all the silver baby gifts in the world, this child will never get over the fact that her mum abandoned her minutes old in a field all on her own.

Suddenly I don’t feel so materialistic because even I know I would give up all my possessions to protect a child, let alone if it were my child!

The other half…

Having spoken of weddings and beautiful things, I thought it only fair to say don’t forget your better half. Though I can guarantee that most men will not be in the least interested in the wedding dress (except if you tell them they cannot see it until the big day), you can get them to participate by choosing mens jewelry both for themselves (their ring) and perhaps as gifts for the ushers, best man etc.

New Beginnings

After such a sombre post, I felt I needed to review something positive. There is nothing more positive than new beginnings and weddings are a perfect example of a new beginning. So, here goes….

I picked the Mori Lee website because it felt fresh and new. It is nice to see something positive amidst all this gloom. The are mainly a wedding oriented website but besides doing wedding dresses and brides maid dresses, they also do dresses for the guests (or well special occasions and party dresses). They do not unfortunately provide the occasion to wear them. You have to provide your own groom and / or party invitations. They also have a wonderful range of Prom Dresses. The prom dresses 2009 collection is really amazing. I really like the Purple Passion – pale blue tulle layered with jewelled beading. I wonder if I could get myself one for our 10th Wedding Anniversary this summer?

I liked the website because rather than concentrating on selling, they concentrate on showing off their collection which is fantastic. It gives you the possibility of choosing your dress or getting ideas without having to browse shop after shop. And once you find the dress of your dreams… because these are dream dresses… you can find a shop close to you. And I mean close to you. They have stores all over the world including the USA, Canada, Malta, England and Isle of Man (as well as in every continent). Their store finder system is fantastic too. It really brings up every country I could think of.

I think the only drawback is not being able to see prices. Mind you I am not sure this is a bad idea. You see it has pros and cons. The con of not seeing the price is that you might fall in love with one out of your budget. The pro is that you have a wider choice of dress which can give you a better idea of what you want.

As for the flower girl dresses…. oh how sweet!! They are perfect. Some can also be used for holy communion dresses too or as party dresses. If I had to do it all again… I would go crazy for this site especially considering I had bridesmaids from all over the world. I could have seen the dresses in Malta and everyone tried on the dress in a shop close to them. Ah well…. Maybe I could save my sister some effort!!

Woolworths

It is with sad regret that I write this post, because today was Woolworths last official day. Whatever will I do without woolworths. I realised that half my stuff came from there from raisons for my son’s lunchbox to his wardrobe, from books to my wear and throw tights. Argh… I miss Woolworths already.

:( Woolies… you will be sadly and sorely missed.

(I know Adams also closed unexpected yesterday or the day before but without even as much as a closing down sale… they won’t be missed anywhere near as much!)

Damn the recession.
